Dr. the Rev. Ralph W. Rivers passed away Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, in Riceville.

He was born Feb. 17, 1940, to Ralph and Minnie Ruth Rivers in Lake Panasoffkee, Fla.

He married Sharon A. Rivers on Jan. 1, 1988.

He graduated from Coral Gables High School in Miami and attended Florida State University, Mercer University, Emory University, and the Candler School of Theology, at Emory. He was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from Coral Ridge Bible College and Seminary. He served churches as pastor in Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee, and at the time of his passing was serving at Mount Olivet, Goodfield, and Mount Carmel Churches.

He is survived by three children: Robin (Jeff) Benton of Monroe, N.C., Charles K. (Dona) Miller of Summerfield, Fla., and Jason (Nancy) Miller of Athens; grandchildren; Amanda and Austin Cash, Tristan and Chloe Miller, Shelley and Travis Varnum and Allison Miller; and four great-grandchildren: brother, Charlie (Iris) Rivers; sisters, Prudence Schubert, Martha (Sherman) Peiffer, and Robin (Jennings) Neeld; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church in Decatur, Thursday Dec. 19, 2013, at 6 p.m.

A graveside service will be held at the Pine Level Cemetery in Oxford, Fla., Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at 11 a.m.
