Mel Griffith to seek return to 6th District Commission seat

Mel Griffith has announced his candidacy for re-election to the County Commission representing the 6th District.

Griffith, a fifth-generation Bradley Countian, operates a farm in the Valley View community.

He is serving his second term on the County Commission. He had previously served eight years on the Bradley County Board of Education. He has been a member of the Bradley County Planning Commission for the past 14 years.

Griffith is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and of Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. He spent eight years as a faculty member of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, La.

He is retired from the United States Army Reserve with 27 years of service. He has been a member of the Valley View Ruritan Club for 40 years and is a member of Big Spring United Methodist Church.

He was married to the former Rosaria Curatolo for 47 years, until her death in 2012.

He has two children, Nardina Turner, who works for the federal government in Atlanta, and LTC Scott Griffith, stationed with the U.S. Army in Bethesda, Md., and five grandchildren.
