Dorothy Brown, 69, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, in a Chattanooga health care facility.

She was the daughter of the late Ruth McCann Hooker and Luther Howard Hooker. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Bates Cross; second husband, David Brown; her brothers: Paul Hooker and Ralph Hooker; and her sisters: Sherry Hooker and Linda Huggins.

She worked for S.S.C. Solutions as a janitor. One of her jobs was cleaning Yates Primary School where all the kids loved being around her. She enjoyed her family and working in the yard. She was of the Pentecostal faith.

She is survived by her son, Christopher “Chris” Cross and his wife, Jamie, of Cleveland; her grandson, Kevin Cross and his wife, Stephanie, of Cleveland; her brothers: Charles Hooker and his wife, Francis, of Cleveland, Ronnie Hooker and his wife, Pat, of Tullahoma, Gary Hooker and his wife, Cynthia, of Calhoun, and Larry Hooker and his wife, Phyllis, of Benton; her sisters: Mildred Martin of Cleveland, Bertie Hicks and her husband, David, of Cleveland, Debbie Lemons and her husband, Bill, of Cleveland and Virginia Burger and her husband, Ray, of Benton; and several nieces and nephews.

A Remembrance of Life service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, from the Wildwood Avenue Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes with the Rev. David Hicks officiating.

Interment will follow in the Four Mile Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

The family is now receiving friends until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
