THE OCOEE MIDDLE Lady Colts eighth-grade girls basketball team won the championship in the Rhea County Holiday Basketball Tournament. In a hard-fought final, the OMS girls came out as champions in a double overtime thriller by a score of 33-27 over the Rhea County girls. After regulation ended in a 22-22 tie, the first overtime came to a close with the score knotted at 27-all. The Lady Colts pulled away in the second OT to win 33-27. Lindsey Wyatt scored nine points for OMS, while Lauren Lay and Macey Clark added seven points apiece. Haley Jones and Abbey Davis tossed in four points each and Emily Anderson added two points to the win. Jones, Lay and Davis were chosen for the All-Tournament team. “Rhea is a tough team and well coached. Our girls never gave up, played smart and gave all they had to hold off Rhea. It was a thriller across the river. It was a true team victory with help from our bench. I am very proud of the girls,” said OMS coach Joe Spencer.
