DORMAN, S.C. — After a week of holiday celebrations, Bradley Central’s Bearettes returned to the hardwood Friday, making the journey to South  Carolina.

Claiming a 53-44 victory over a strong Wade Hampton team from Greeneville, S.C., Coach Jason Reuter’s squad advanced to the semifinals of the Dorman (S.C.) Christmas Classic.

Now 10-3 on the season, the Bearettes faced the defending state runner-up and host Dorman squad after press time Saturday evening (full details will be in Monday’s Banner).

Bradley will play again on Monday in either the tournament’s championship game or the third-place consolation game, depending on Saturday’s result.

The Bearettes will return to the Jim Smiddy Arena hardwood on Jan. 6 as Girls Preparatory School (GPS) makes the trip up from Chattanooga. The Bears will face McCallie in the nightcap of the varsity twin bill.

Bradley jumped out to an early advantage Friday, leading 13-9 at the first horn.

The Bearettes netted just eight points in the second frame and saw their lead cut in half to 21-19 at the intermission.

The girls in Black-and-Gold put up a consistent 16 points in each of the final two frames, while holding Wade Hampton to 11 and 14 points respectively.

University of Florida signee Brooke Copeland paced the Bradley attack with a game-high 20 points, plus she pulled down five rebounds, dished off a trio of assists and blocked a pair of shots.

Fellow “Twin Tower” Rebecca Reuter, a Middle Tennessee State signee, posted her usual double-double with 11 points, going 5-for-5 from the field, grabbing a dozen rebounds and blocking three shots.

Freshman Emma Kate Brown helped out the victory with 13 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and a couple of steals.

Junior point guard Chelsea Summars dished out seven assists and netted five points, while sophomore Julia Gaither cleaned the glass for four caroms for the victors.

Bradley made 14-of-17 free throws in the contest, while the Lady Red Devils sank 9-of-12.
