Agnes “Aggie” Marie Murphy, 51, of Delano, passed away at her residence surrounded by her loving children, Friday, Jan. 10, 2014.

She was born in Munich, Germany, and grew up in Louisville, Ky., before moving to this area in 1985.

She spent six years as a top Customer Service representative for Whirlpool. She was an active member of Delano Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, was a member of the choir, and took on the responsibility of making and creating decorations and artwork for church activities. She was the most loving and devoted mother to her three children. She was a loyal and genuine friend to those around her. Her uplifting spirit made an impact on those who were lucky enough to know her.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Josephine Ritchie; and brother, Michael VanPortfleet.

She is the mother of three children: Mikey Murphy and special friend, Maggie Wilson of Benton, Chrissy Carroll and husband, Nathan, Carroll of Athens, and Cassie Cantrell and husband, Nick Cantrell, of Cleveland; grandson, Major Carroll of Athens; special friends: Don and Donna Longworth of Delano; several other extended family members and close friends.

A celebration of her life will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home of Etowah with Pastor Johnny Powers officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend appreciation to Avalon Hospice and Tennessee Oncology for their compassionate care.
