Ricky H. Smith, 59, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, in a Knoxville hospital.
He was the son of the late Mary Lou Wright Smith and James L. Smith Sr. He was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, the Rev. William and Mary Ellen Smith; maternal grandparents, Will Wright and Clara Mae Wright Jenkins; brothers: Jimmy “Tight Eye” Wright, Tommy Lamar Smith and James Junior Smith, who passed away Jan. 7, 2014.
He was an avid UT fan. He loved watching the old classic TV shows, going to yard sales and cooking for his family and friends. He worked at Georgia Pacific for 16 years and also Cleveland Chair.
He is survived by his sons: Ricky H. Smith Jr. and his companion, Myua Peels, and Kevin Lee Smith, all of Cleveland; the love of his life, Alice Maples of Cleveland; grandchildren: Brooke Johnston and her husband, Johnathan, Ricky H. Smith III, Abbigail Smith, Dakota Hipp, Summer Hipp, Korinne Smith and Kevin Lee Smith Jr.; great-grandchild, Paisley Johnston; brothers: Bobby Smith of Moultrie Ga., Jackie Smith and his wife, Julie, of Cleveland; sister, Wanda Masingale and her husband, Bobby, of Cleveland; sister-in-law and caregiver, Jeri Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
A Remembrance of Life service will be held at 7 p.m. today, Jan. 21, 2014, at the North Ocoee Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes with the Rev. John Bivens and the Rev. Kenneth Bowers officiating.
Interment will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Moore’s Chapel cemetery with Wayne Smith, Jeremy Smith, Johnathan Johnston, Daniel Swafford, Ronnie Godfrey and Cecil Trantham serving as pallbearers and Randy King and Daniel Blankenship serving as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends this evening from 4 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday from noon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
