The Rev. Amos Eldon Waters, 101, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at the family residence.

He was the son of the late Pearlee German Waters and Ulysess Waters. His loving wife of 54 years, Ruth Ruby Lee Green Waters; his daughter, Wanda Faye Waters Gibbs; his sister, Lola Mae Waters Grubb; his son-in law, Joe Morgan Sr. and his brothers: Olen Lee Waters, Lloyd Waters, Lawrence Waters and Wallace Waters also preceded him in death.

He was retired form Cornett Carpets with more than 20 years of service.

He was ordained with the Church of God on May 20, 1953. He loved preaching, witnessing and teaching God’s word as long as his health allowed him. He preached God’s word until 2013 with 60 years of ministering. He also enjoyed singing about his Savior. He attended the Church of God.

Survivors include his son, Hershell Waters and his wife, Rita; his daughter, Barbra Ann Waters Morgan; his granddaughters: Darlene Young and her husband, Randall, and Donna Gail Baine; his grandsons: Ronnie Waters and his wife, Tammy, Michael Waters and his wife, Angie, Lamar Waters, Darrell Gibbs and his wife, Tessie, Steve Gibbs and his wife, Teresa, James Gibbs and his wife, Robin, and Joe Morgan Jr. and his wife, Nicole; his great-grand daughters: Jaci Lee Ann Waters and her fiancé, Johnny Brown, Sheree Willis, Brooke Willis, Miranda Willis, Jennifer Cooper and her husband, Denzil, Abby Gibbs and her fiancé, Coty Cranfield, and Madison Ensley; his great-grandsons: Steven Waters, Brett Waters, Timothy Willis, Anthony Young and his wife, Nora, Mickey Young and his wife, Sarah, and Nathan Ensley; his great-great-granddaughters: Stella Jane Brown and Celia Faye Young; his great-great-grandsons: Draydon Willis, Maddox Cooper and Braydon Cooper; his son-in-law, Thidora Gibbs; his sister, Gazel Waters Philpot and her husband, Hubert; and several nieces and nephew.

The Remembrance of Life service will be held Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at 3 p.m. from the Wildwood Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes with the Revs. Don Harris and Ron Bard officiating.

Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with Ronnie Waters, Lamar Waters, James Gibbs, Mickey Young, Nathan Ensley and Ty Hembree serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Darrell Gibbs, Brett Waters, Eric Hembree and Coty Cranfield.

The family will receive friends from noon until 3 p.m. Friday at the Wildwood Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes.
