He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Vernon and Dema Dodd Shoemaker.
He retired from Southern Railroad after serving more than 40 years as a switchman and conductor. His great love was fishing, going to estate sales and flea markets.
As a young boy he enjoyed being involved in the 4-H and FFA raising prized “Jersey Cows” with his brother, Ronny. He loved to duck hunt with his many friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory one son, Jeff L. Shoemaker; one daughter, Tammy Shoemaker Evans; one brother and sister-in-law, Ronny and Sue Shoemaker; two grandsons: Nick and Bobby Goins; and two great-grandchildren: Schyler and Jaxon Goins; one on the way; one niece, Jennifer (Tod) Miller; one nephew, David (Nikki) Shoemaker; two great-nephews: Cole and Layne Shoemaker; aunt and uncle, Bill and Barbara Burns; several cousins; one very special friend, Marlyn Kelley; several other extended family members and a host of friends.
A celebration of his life is planned for Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at 4 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, 2514 Old Chattanooga Pike in Cleveland with the Rev. James Garner officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 2 until the 4 p.m. service time.
