The Chair-ries Jubilee Committee is giving away furniture this week for artists planning to “do over” items for the 16th annual arts auction, “Do-Over Dynasty.”

Presented by the Allied Arts Council of the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce, artists and other creative individuals will help raise funds to promote arts in our schools and community by “doing over” items salvaged from attics, basements and garages.

The furniture giveaway will take place Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m., and again Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon, at the United Way building located at 555 Ocoee St.

“Winter is a great time to begin painting and refurbishing furniture pieces for the spring auction,” said Nancy Casson, co-chairman of the Chair-ries Jubilee Committee, said. “Our furniture giveaway is a great opportunity to motivate artists to get started on just the right piece to donate to the auction.”

Casson also suggested artists who need ideas to help do over furniture pieces may look at the photo book from last year’s auction items on display at the Chamber of Commerce.

Through the Chamber’s Allied Arts Council, the Chair-ries Jubilee auction raised more than $28,000 last year and more than $300,000 since the event’s inception. These monies provide annual funding for teachers to receive grants for up to $500 for viable art programs for their classrooms, as well as for visiting artists to appear in area schools.

Chair-ries Jubilee will take place April 11 at the Museum Center at Five Points and will include a silent auction, a social featuring area caterers and a live auction. The committee will release additional details in the coming weeks.

For more information about submitting items for the auction, call the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce at 472-6587 or Casson at 473-1114.
