James Isaiah “Sonny” Johnson, 78, born in Cleveland, to the late Viola and Frank Johnson, departed this life on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Bell Westfield Johnson; son, Rayce Johnson; one great-grandchild; brothers and sisters: Robert Everret, Willie Faye Couch, William Bill Person, Bobby L. Johnson, Norman (Anna Pearl) Johnson, Virgelia (Gene) Leroy; and his aunt, Odella Blair.

Sonny, as he was affectionately known, was a graduate of College Hill High School. He later enlisted in the United States Armed Forces. He married Carrie Bell Westfield and to this union were born four boys and two girls.

He retired from Olin Corporation/Arch Chemical and later spent his retirement time working for The Medical Center Pharmacy. He was very soft spoken. He was a kind and generous man. His house was a home to many in the community and his doors were always open to welcome family and friends.

He leaves to cherish his memories his daughters: Carol Y. (Vicky) Westfield, Becky Johnson Hickey and Dacyal (Vance) Johnson; his sons: Terrial L (Lavinia) Johnson, Randy Johnson, and Byron Johnson; his godchildren: Shawnda Ware Burgess and DaNarius Ware; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Harry M. (Len) Johnson Sr.; sister, Geraldine Everret; daughter-in-law, Bowry Johnson; sisters-in-law: Willie Jean Johnson, Betty Person and Delois (Eugene) McCleary; brother-in-law, Ardel Couch; special cousin, Evelyn Davis; many nieces, nephews; others relatives and many friends.

The body may be viewed Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m at Patton Funeral Home Chapel, 265 Fair Street, Cleveland.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. service time at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 799 East Inman Street, Cleveland.

The Rev. Doctor Harry M. Johnson Sr. will be officiating and the Rev. Edward S. Robinson Sr. pastor will be the eulogist.
