The Ocoee Middle eighth-grade basketball Lady Colts advanced to the state tournament semifinals with a 34-29 win over Union Grove Wednesday night. The OMS girls will face Seymore tonight.

OMS held an 8-2 lead after one quarter and went into halftime out front 17-10. The Lady Colts held a 22-18 lead at the end of the third quarter before coming from behind in the fourth quarter to close out the win.

Haley Jones led the Lady Colts defensively with 12 rebounds. Lauren Lay scored 15 points to lead OMS on the offensive side. Lindsey Wyatt added six, Jones tossed in five, and Macey Clark and Abbey Davis contributed four points apiece.

“The game was close all the way as we were behind 25-24 in the fourth,” said OMS coach Joe Spencer. “Their point guard was in the top two that we have faced all year, and we held her to 16 points. We held their main shooting forward to three points. It was a physical game against a tough team. All five starters scored for us with Lauren Lay leading the way. It was a real team victory.”
