The Lee men’s tennis team opened the 2014 season with an impressive 9-0 victory over visiting Christian Brothers on a cold Sunday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center.

Veteran leader Richard Gamble and Daniel Hardesty got the Flames off to a quick start in doubles by downing Austin Essary and Nick Wiseman, 8-2. Kevin Tan and Wes Lemke followed the lead and defeated Steven Johnston and Daniel D’Alto, 8-3. In the No. 3 doubles Alberto Calle and Vincent Audy were awarded a default.

The singles action was more of a test for the Flames. Calle needed a short set before winning over Essary, 6-4, 4-6, 10-5. Gamble had very little trouble in his 6-2, 6-3 win, but Hardesty needed a short set before turning back Johnston, 6-2, 3-6, 10-8.

Tan waltzed past D’Alto 6-0, 6-1 and Audy was a 6-0, 6-0 winner before Lemke closed out the afternoon with a default victory.

The Flames will celebrate part of their Valentine’s Day on the courts of the DeVos Center when they host Georgetown College (Ky.) on Friday at 2 p.m.
