Lee University women’s soccer coach Matt Yelton has released his 2014 signing class. Eleven new players will join the team for the fall of 2014.

“This is a great day for Lee soccer,” said Yelton, who will start his 13th season at the helm of the Lee program. “This is a very strong group of players that we are adding to the squad and I believe they will lead Lee into an era of NCAA success in the years to come.”

The incoming class is coming from all over the United States, with one additional player from Canada joining the class.

The forwards include Nicole Blanchard (Grandville, Mich.), Katie Cloud (Knoxville), Anna Leslie (Germantown), Morgan Sandifer (Knoxville) and Sarah Standley (Greenwood, Ind.).

At midfield, Lee welcomes Sarah Boyd (Braselton, Ga.) and Sydney Rayborn (Lakeland, Fla.), as well as defenders Suzanne Arant (Charlotte, N.C.), Alex Baker (Blythewood, S.C.) and Sophie Pleger (Snellville, Ga.).

Goalkeeper Erin Olson is coming to Lee all the way from Calgary, Canada.

“With this class we believe we have added a very athletic group that will be necessary to move our program forward at the NCAA level,” noted Yelton. “This is a group we have been building for the last two years, and it is great to officially be able to welcome them to our program.”

Lady Flames softball

home opener postponed

Fans of Lee University softball will have to wait a few more days to enjoy the Lady Flames home opener at Butler Field. Due to a wintry weather mix the doubleheader scheduled with Tennessee Wesleyan on Thursday has been postponed. A make up date has yet to be determined.

The Lady Flames (3-3) will now turn their attention to the Gulf South Conference as they open up play with Union University in Jackson on Saturday at 2 p.m. The two teams will play a doubleheader followed by a single game on Sunday.

Lee will open up play at Butler Field on Tuesday, Feb. 18 when they welcome North Georgia to Butler Field for a non-conference doubleheader at 2 p.m.
