Pauline Meredith Miller, 87 formerly of Athens, passed away peacefully at home in her sleep Saturday morning, Feb. 15, 2014, in Cleveland.

She was born May 29, 1926, in Pioneer, Tenn., and was a daughter of the late Roscoe and Addie Pearl Sharp Meredith. She preceded in death by her husband, M.C. Miller Jr; brothers: Harley Meredith and Lawrence Meredith; infant son, Robert Miller ;and infant great-grandson: Zachary Garvin.

After graduating from Jacksboro High School in 1945, she worked in the secret uranium enrichment plant at Oak Ridge for the summer. Following World War II, she attended Carson Newman College, where she met her future husband: M.C. Miller Jr. and they graduated in 1948. They lived happily together in Athens from 1953 until his death in April 2011. She taught school before becoming a full-time mom. When her youngest son started school, she then taught fourth grade at City Park School in Athens until she retired. She was a member of North Athens Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law: James Anthony and Donna Miller of Cleveland, John Warren Miller of Philadellphia, Tenn. and Larry Alan and Shannon Miller of Riceville; brother, Curtis Meredith of Straight Fork, Tenn.; special cousin, Joyce Reynolds; six grandchildren: Brent Miller, George Miller, Crystal Miller Garvin, John Wesley Miller, Amanda Wooden and Emily Buckner; 10 great-grandchildren: Kiersten Garvin, Geena Garvin, Wyatt Hollingsworth, Scarlett Scrimpsher, Hayden Miller, Kayla Partain, Alicia Wooden, Kyle Buckner, Kimberly Buckner and Jordan Buckner; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 7:30 p.m. today, Feb. 17, 2014, in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home in Athens with Dr. Bob Kerr officiating.

Interment will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in U.S. National Tennessee State Cemetery, 5901 Lyons View Pike, Knoxville.

Active pallbearers will be Brent Miller, George Miller, John Wesley Miller, James Miller, John Warren Miller and Larry Miller.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:30 this evening at the funeral home.
