Charles Neil Elam, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, surrounded by family.

He was born in Hickman, Ky., on July 17, 1939, to the late Marvin Elam and Dolly Terrett Elam.

He became a Christian in 1973 and he attended Shiloh Baptist Church.

He served in the U.S. Army, but found his niche in sales because of his love of talking to people and making friends. He had a quick wit and a generous heart and was always helping others.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Tammie; his sisters: Charlotte Atwill of Fulton, Ky., and Carolyn Jones and husband, George A., of Cayce, Ky.; brothers: Bart Elam and wife, Vickie, of Leland, N.C., and Richard Elam of Dyersburg; sisters and brothers-in-law: Debbie Lester and husband, Mike, and Mike Mitchell and wife, Teresa; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and many friends.

He always had a special relationship with his great-nephew and best buddy, Tyler Harrison, who brought him great joy.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at Cayce United Methodist Church in Cayce, Ky.

A special appreciation to all who visited called and prayed for our family during this time. Also special appreciation to all the caring staff of doctors, nurses and aides at Parkridge Medical Center in Chattanooga.
