The Polk County Historical & Genealogical Society will meet today at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Benton. Barry Phillips, a dowser, will be sharing some of his experiences while searching old cemeteries for unmarked graves.

Take Charge of Your Diabetes six-week course will continue on Monday, March 3 and 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. each week. The course is a fun, skill-building program designed for persons with diabetes. It is designed to help individuals take day-to-day responsibility for the care of their diabetes. Class size is limited. For more information, contact the UT Extension-Bradley Office at 728-7001.

The Gem Players announce auditions for the upcoming spring production of The Marvelous Wonderettes on Monday and Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Gem Theater in Etowah. The cast includes four women, ages 20 and above. Participants should bring two musical selections of their choice with either CD or sheet music. There will be an accompanist for the auditions.

Movie Night @ the Library will show Oscar Contenders this year. “Lee Daniel’s The Butler” will be on Feb. 25 in the Community Room at 6:30 p.m.

Fun and fitness exercise classes for all ages are held at First United Methodist Church, 3425 N. Ocoee St., Monday, Wednesday and Friday from noon to 1 p.m. The classes, which are taught by Ann Smeltzer RN, will continue for five weeks. Cost is $1 per day. The United Club will meet Tuesday, 11:30 a.m., at the Golden Corral. Missionary and Evangelism Coordinator E. Roger Ammons for The Church of God will be the guest speaker. He will discuss his some 30 trips to Haiti and more recently, a life-threatening experience in Congo. He serves, also, as pastor of the Southside church. Movie Night @ the library will show “Lee Daniel’s The Butler” on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. It was originally scheduled for January but was not shown due to snow closing. Join us for popcorn and a movie on the big screen.

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) local chapter meets every Monday at Wesleyan Methodist Church on Peerless Road. Private weigh-ins are from 5 to 5:30 p.m. and the meeting is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. A TOPS category for children ages 7-18 is available. For more information, call 472-9628 or 593-4727.

Celebrate 35 Years of AACA at the biggest fundraiser of the year hosted by the Athens Area Council for the Arts

Auxiliary on March 1 at 6:30 p.m. There will be a silent and an oral auction and dancing to The Beaters. Proceeds benefit AACA programming — particularly arts in education and outreach.
