Walker Valley High School will be continuing its production of “Shrek The Musical” through the end of this week.

“Shrek The Musical” is based on the animated DreamWorks movie “Shrek” and the book “Shrek!” by William Steig.

Featuring music composed by Jeanine Tesori and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire, the musical offers a different take on the stories of some well-known fairytale characters and some that may not be as familiar, like the green ogre who bears the same name as the musical’s title.

The musical has been performed on Broadway in New York and in London, England’s West End district, and some of the theater-loving students at Walker Valley are now sharing the musical with a more local audience.

They have been gearing up for the musical’s second weekend of performances by continuing to practice their song and dance skills while costumed as a very colorful cast of characters ranging from a redheaded princess named Fiona and a donkey named Donkey to the three little pigs and the big bad wolf.

The musical will be performed Thursday, Feb. 27, through Saturday, March 1, in the auditorium of the school, which is located at 750 Lauderdale Memorial Highway in Cleveland. The shows will be a 7 each night.

Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for adults if bought from the school bookkeeper before the show and $7 for students and $10 for adults if they are bought at the door.

For more information about ticket purchases, call the school at 423-336-1383.
