Carson T. Turner, 90, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday evening, Feb. 25, 2014, in a Chattanooga hospital.
He was born Oct. 20, 1923, in Union County. He was the son of the late Maud Della Weaver Turner and Sterling Turner. He was preceded in death by his sisters: Reba Turner, Lassie Faye Sexton and Pauline Lundsford; brothers: Foster Turner and Everett Turner; and his stepdaughter, Debbie Livingston. He worked with his family on their farm in Maynardville where they grew produce. At the age of 17, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps which provided jobs for unemployed, unmarried men ages 18-25 before World War II. He then served in the U. S. Army and was a veteran of World War II.
He was retired from Oxford Clothing Manufacturing in Monroe, Ga. as a supervisor in the Cutting Department. He also worked for Levi Strauss Company. All together he had more than 50 years of service in the clothing business.
He enjoyed working around his house and his yard and he was an avid Atlanta Braves Baseball fan. He also enjoyed watching and listening to the Gaither Gospel Programs. He was a member of the Bellefounte Baptist Church where he was very active in the Senior Adult Sunday school class.
Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Geneva Turner of Cleveland; son, Pat Turner and his wife, Beverly, of Hiwassee, Ga.; daughters: Reta Paul and her husband, Bill, of Cleveland and Donna Vitch and her husband, John, of Elberton, Ga.; his grandchildren: Scott Turner and his wife, Denise, of Nolensville, Rachel Turner of New Zealand, Angie Thompson and her husband, Paul, of Calhoun, Tommy Paul, Julie Murray and her husband, Adam, of Etowah, Carrie Bardill and her husband, Josh, of Clinton, Sonya Moelter and her husband, John of Milton, Ga., Celeste Walker and her husband, Brandon, of Conyers, Ga. and Aaron Henley of Chamblee, Ga.; and 19 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and many other loving family members.
The Remembrance of Life service will be held today Feb. 27, 2014, at 7 p.m. from the North Ocoee Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes with the Revs. Lake Walker and Glen Clower officiating.
A graveside service and interment will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from the Sunset Memorial Gardens with Tommy and Cole Paul, Adam Murray, Paul Thompson, Arnold Moss and Glen Keith serving as pallbearers. Military honors will be given.
The family request that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Bellefounte Baptist Church Adult Sunday school class, 132 Bellefounte Road N. E. Charleston, TN 37310.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 this evening before the service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
