GREENVILLE, S.C. — Lee University softball player Dominique Hannah and women's golfer Courtney Shelton have been named National Christian College Athletic Association Student-Athletes of the Week.
Hannah delivered all weekend long at the plate as the Lady Flames took two of three games from GSC rival West Georgia. The outfielder hit a grand slam with two outs in the third inning to help propel Lee to a 6-3 victory over the Wolves in last Sunday's series finale.
In Saturday's doubleheader split, Hannah went 4-for-7 and scored two runs. The junior is now hitting .344 on the season while scoring 12 runs and driving in 11.
Hannah is an exercise science major from Nashville.
Shelton took home medalist honors while guiding the Lady Flames golf team to a team victory at the TSYS Collegiate Classic in Columbus, Ga. Shelton carded a 2-over 74 in the final round and finished with a 223 in the 54-hole tournament, four strokes better than Elizabeth Swallow (227). It marked the third medalist crown of the year for the senior, who has now won 10 times during her illustrious Lee career.
Guided by Shelton's top score the Lady Flames as a team turned in a 934 to take the tournament title at the Columbus Country Club. Lander would follow at 939. Montevallo (Ala.) was third (950). West Alabama placed fourth (996) and host Columbus State rounded out the top five (1005).
The Franklin native is a political science major and was named an NCCAA Scholar-Athlete in the fall, proving her success extends beyond the course and into the classroom as well.
