Have you ever wanted to do a genealogy search but didn’t know how to start? Tracing your family’s history is a fascinating journey. Join us today in the Community Room as “2nd Sundays @ 2” presents “Discover Your Roots.”

The library staff will guide you along the way by explaining the library’s resources, offering tips to begin your search. Learn about the databases available for you as a patron of the library.

The library has just added an Active Alert for our patrons as an easy way to keep up with the newest books, movies and audiobooks on your favorite topics and from your favorite authors.

You will automatically be alerted via email whenever there is a new book added — John Grisham book, mystery book on CD, children’s book about dinosaurs and so forth. You can have as many of these alerts running as you like and you can set them up from home. The library doesn’t want to bury you in emails, so the alerts go out only once a week.

When you open the email, there’ll be a list of all the new items the library has added, with a link to that specific item in our catalog. When you click on that link, you’ll easily be able to see if the item is currently available. You can even place a reserve right from there.

To set up the alerts go to the Access Account tab on the library’s homepage and enter your library card number and pin. Click the “My Account” tab and go down to the tab that is labeled “Active Alerts.” Then all you do is list any items that you are interested in knowing about.

If you’re reading the email on your iPhone or other Flash-incompatible device, don’t worry. There’s a link for each item to the HTML version of the catalog too.
