ATHENS — The Bradley Central Bears spotted the Stone Memorial Panthers an early 2-0 lead before rallying behind senior pitcher Seth Lee to claim a 6-2 victory at McMinn County High School in the Richard Edwards Playing for a Cure tournament.

Lee evened his season record to 1-1 with the complete game victory, by retiring the last 13 batters he faced after a shaky start. He gave up six hits in the first three innings before shutting down the Panthers the rest of the way. “Seth did a great job locating his fastball all day, he just kept getting better as the game went on,” said coach Travis Adams.

The Panthers pushed across a run in the opening frame on a pair of hits and a hit batsman. Stone Memorial increased the lead in the third to 2-0 on a controversial home run call before the Bears plated three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead.

Caleb Pace started the rally with a one out double, and scored on a single by Jacob Barnes. Austin Calfee chased Barnes home with single after Barnes had stolen second. Brett Standifer drew a base on balls and scored the third Bear run of the inning, crossing the plate on a passed ball.

Bradley tacked on single runs in the next three innings to put the game out of reach behind the effort of Lee.

Tanner Cox scored in the fourth inning on a wild pitch after lacing a double to the left-field corner, and advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt by Pace.

Hunter Rogers and Chandler Duggan stroked back-to-back doubles in the fifth for the Bears. Calfee doubled in the sixth and went to third on a single by Standifer. Calfee trotted home with the final run on an error following a failed pick off attempt by the Panther catcher.

“The team really stayed focused after falling behind early, the defense was solid behind Seth and we did a better job of driving in runs,” added Adams.

Bradley continues tournament action this afternoon taking on CAK at 5 p.m. back in Athens. the Bears are slated to wrap up the event Saturday with a pair of home games against Alcoa and Meigs County at 4:30 and 7 p.m. respectively.
