John Ralph Burchfield, 72, a longtime resident of Cleveland, passed away peacefully at his home Friday night, March 14, 2014, surrounded by family.
He was born on Feb. 14, 1942, in Robbinsville, N.C., a son of the late Floyd and Myrtle Burchfield. He worked for many years until his retirement as a truck driver where he was known to many by his CB handle “Shaggy Dog.”
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Natasha Burchfield; and three siblings: Foie Lee Pressley, Robert Earl Burchfield and Bessie Mae Shoat.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of more than 26 years, Vickie Baliles Burchfield; five children: Stephen and Melissa Burchfield, Johnny and Kayleen Burchfield, Michelle Burchfield, Caden Burchfield and Shawna and Kevin Howard; nine grandchildren: Sam Burchfield, Cierra Burchfield, Angelica Burchfield, Dekotah Howard aka “Shaggy Pup,” Tiffany Howard, Jack McCarty, Kyle Kincaid, Jane Kincaid and Lila Kincaid; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Pearl McGill; numerous other extended family members; and a host of special friends.
A celebration of his life is planned for Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at 7 p.m. at the Kinser Church of God located at 141 Kinser Road SE in Cleveland with the Rev. Guinn Green officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday afternoon from 5 until the service time.
