The Tennessee Overhill Heritage Association is taking reservations for the Hiwassee River Rail Adventure. Visitors have a choice of two excursions, the Hiwassee River Rail Loop, a half day trip or the Copperhill Special, a full day trip. Both routes parallel beside the scenic Hiwassee River gorge and the engineering marvel of the famous Hiwassee Rail Loop, the third longest rail loop in the world. It meanders deep into remote areas of the Cherokee National Forest, making this one of the most scenic rail excursions in the Southeast. Trips will begin on April 5 and run every weekend through Nov. 30 with some weekdays during the fall season. The adventure begins in the historic railroad town of Etowah. Passengers will park in designated areas in downtown Etowah near the Depot, and board shuttle buses at the L&N Depot Museum for a short ride to Gee Creek State Park where they will board the train. Reservation may be made by calling the Etowah ticket office at 423-263-7840 or Tennessee Valley Railroad Ticket Line at 423-894-8028 or go online to http://www.tvrail.com/pages/etowah-train-rides-train-excursions-in-tennessee for descriptions of the routes, pricing, and scheduling. Passengers may select regular coach seating or dome observation cars.
