Nellie Marie Kazy Smith, 92, was called home on Sunday, March 30, 2014.
She was a lifelong resident of Bradley County. She passed away peacefully at her home. She was born on Oct. 6, 1921, a daughter of the late James and Lillie Kazy.
She was of the Methodist faith and a member of Tasso United Methodist Church. She worked at Hardwick Clothes and had retired after 65 years of faithful service.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard Smith, and siblings: Mae Wilson, Maggie Bullington, Charlie Kazy, Oscar Kazy, Author Kazy, Taylor Kazy, Farlie Kary, Roy Kazy and Harlin Kazy.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Thelma Kazy, and a host of special nieces and nephews, including her caregivers: Cingy Coleman, Celsie Coleman, Jacob Ogle, Zac Young and Rita Doyle.
A celebration of her life is planned for Thursday night, April 3, 2014, at Philippi Baptist Church, 2482 Harrison Pike NW, with Dr. Sammy Hooker officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 5 p.m. until the 8 p.m. service time.
The interment and committal service will be held Friday, April 4, 2014, at 1 p.m. in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Zac Young, Timmy Doyle, Richard Chiusano, Charles Martin, Tatum Loftis and Calvin Milsaps serving as pallbearers. The funeral processional will leave the church at 12:30 p.m. Friday.
