THE FORTY & EIGHT, a charitable Honor Society of American Veterans, recently presented a program to the Westside Ruritan Club. Established in 1929 by the American Legion, the Forty & Eight provides “service in war, charity in peace.” Among the organization’s programs are child welfare, nurse scholarships, medical research, Americanism, Carvelle Star, youth sports, Boxcar Association, POW/MIA; and veteran support. Rich William, national Sous director of Special Awards, presented the program. From left are Calvin Mathews, Sandra Dailey, co-program chair; Williams; and Gil Furr, Westside president.
