Loyd Joseph Cofer Sr., 96, a resident of Georgetown, passed away Friday, May 2, 2014, at his home.
He had been a member of the Oak Grove Church of God since 1952.
He was an avid gardener. He was retired from Cavalier Corporation after 35 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lennie Shahan Cofer, who passed away July 28, 1996; parents, J. Claude and Delia Wooden Cofer; granddaughters: Robin Renee Whitaker and Kenna Cofer Ledford; great-grandson, Austin; sister, DeEtta Moles; and son-in-law, Pastor Joe D. Whitaker.
Survivors include his three children: daughter, Lavonne Cofer Whitaker of Cleveland; sons: Lloyd J. Cofer Jr. and wife, Darlene, of Georgetown and Kenneth Ross Cofer and wife, Debbie, of Georgetown; eight grandchildren: J. Darrell Whitaker, Nathan Cofer, Ben Cofer, Jana Edwards, Tara Rievley, Sharon Welch, Rebekah Szpur and Dana Gregory; and 18 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014, in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Pastor Darrell Rose officiating.
Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Nathan Cofer, Mark Rievley, Josh Gregory, Darrell Whitaker, Timothy Welch, Terry Lee Ledford, Eric Edwards and Sean Szpur serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
