After a week away from regular scheduled games, the Lee University baseball team will return to action Tuesday evening at 7 p.m., and will be pitted against the winner of a 3:30 p.m. contest between Knoxville’s Johnson University and Madisonville’s Hiwassee College.

The Flames (30-17) are seeded No. 1 in the NCCAA Mid-East Region Tournament. The winner of the double-elimination tourney will advance to the NCCAA World Series in Mason, Ohio, starting May 14.

Five teams will be taking part in the event hosted at Olympic Field. Plays opens on Tuesday at noon. No. 2-seeded Union University will test a first-year program from Morthland College (West Franklin, Ill.)

The games are scheduled to continue on Wednesday, beginning at noon. If the Flames get past the Johnson University and Hiwassee winner, and Union is able to defeat Morthland, then the two Gulf South rivals would tangle on a Wednesday contest slated for 3:30.

If a team marches through the tourney unbeaten, then a possible champion could be crowned on Thursday after a 4 p.m. game, but if upsets rock the tourney, the championship contest could be delayed until Friday.

“We are excited to be hosting the Mid-East NCCAA Region. It’s a great opportunity for us to gain some postseason experience as we transition into NCAA Division II. We have some familiarity with Union as a Gulf South Conference opponent, but everyone else in the tournament will be new to us. The weather looks great and we are looking forward to an exciting week of baseball.”
