Stephen Lewis Crawford, 58, formerly of Cleveland, died Saturday, May 3, 2014, in a Chattanooga health care facility.
He was a graduate of Cleveland High School the class of 1975, where he was on the basketball team.
He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Cleveland. He served in the United States Army where he became a certified carpenter, and was a well-known maintenance and handy man.
He was the son of the late Charles Crawford and Alice Nell Woods-Crawford. He is also preceded in death by his grandmother, Addie Crawford; grandfather the Rev. D.T. Crawford; and uncles: the Rev. Augustus Crawford, Leonard Woods, Leander Woods and Quinten Woods; and aunt, Alma Rose Woods.
Survivors include one son, Demetrius Montrel Crawford of Chattanooga; aunts: Mildred Bradford and Lilly Woods, both of Cleveland, and Martha Ann Crawford of Georgetown; uncles: Booker T. ( Elizabeth) Woods, Chancel (Mary) Woods, Howard (Estella) Woods and Harold Woods, all of Georgetown; a special caregiver, Orlando (Delia) Crawford of Cleveland; and special friend, Catherin Anderson Hodges of Chattanooga.
The family extends special appreciation to Alex and Jan Crawford of Cleveland, the Wells family, the Thompson family, Oggs family, Smith family, Bryant family, the Kennedy family, the Woods family and the many cousins and other relatives and friends, and the friends at Mary Walker Towers in Chattanooga.
The funeral will be held Thursday, May 8, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the pastor, the Rev. Edward S. Robinson Sr., officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church from 10 until 11 a.m.
Interment will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Visitation by friends will begin after noon Wednesday at M.D. Dotson and Sons Funeral Home 165 Lang Street in Cleveland.
