Pvt. Joseph Lane served 18 months in the Virginia Militia and was present when Cornwallis surrendered at Yorktown.
Lane was an early Bradley County settler.
“This is a rare occasion for the community, as only 13 Revolutionaries are known or reasonably thought to be interred here,” noted David Whaley, president of the local SAR chapter.
Lane was buried in the “old” Lee Cemetery on Shingle Hollow Road, just off White Oak Valley Road. There is a cemetery sign on the east side of the road. One GPS entry would be 149 Shingle Hollow Road.
Some 20 color guard members in Revolutionary War-era clothing will present the colors and fire a three-round musket salute afterward.
A granite marker denoting Lane as an American Patriot will be unveiled during the short ceremony.
