Lee University senior Clark Beckham won ArtistSignal’s Top Artist of the Month competition for April.

The victory was announced on Thursday upon final tallying of the votes.

ArtistSignal is a social music platform which allows listeners to vote for the Top Artist each month. At the end of every month, a grand prize of $10,000 is awarded to the musician with the most votes.

Beckham, a history major at Lee, received his bachelor’s degree Saturday and plans to return to Lee in the fall to pursue his master’s degree.

“I was really blown away by all the support I got from everyone, especially in the Lee community,” said Beckham. “People that I've never met before would come up to me and tell me how they were going to make sure that I won.”

Beckham plans on using the prize money from the competition for new music equipment, funding a new album and recording a music video, among other plans.

“Overall, I was most excited about the publicity my music received,” said Beckham. “I'm finishing up on a new recording project now, and I'm excited to see where it goes in the world of music.”

During his time at Lee, Beckham was a four-year member of Campus Choir, performed in Lee Theatre’s “Big River” and wrote and performed original music put to Shakespearean lyric in “Much Ado About Nothing.”

Beckham also recently auditioned for NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.” Due to confidentiality agreements with the show, Beckham cannot disclose any information on what happened, but anyone interested can tune into the show in June to see the results of his audition.
