The Polk County Democratic Party will host a Meet and Greet with John McKamey, Democratic candidate for governor, on June 2 at 6 p.m.

The event will be held at the Polk County Courthouse in Benton.

This event is open to the public and attendance is encouraged.

John McKamey is a native resident of Northeast Tennessee and a graduate of Milligan College with a masters degree from East Tennessee State University.

McKamey served Sullivan County Public School System as an educator and athletics coach, recognized as Coach of the Year several times during his career and honored for his outstanding leadership with the naming of “McKamey Baseball Field” at Sullivan East High School in Bluff City.

McKamey’s political experience includes more than 20 years of service on the Sullivan County Commission and a term as Sullivan County mayor.

As mayor, he established the Sullivan County Recycling Program, expanded the public school system, built a new building to house the health department and school administrative offices, and built new court rooms at the Justice Center. There were no tax increases for these improvements.
