NORMAN, Okla. — NCAA Division II Ping All-Region honorees have been announced by the GCAA. A total of 106 players across eight regions — East, Atlantic, Southeast, South, Midwest, South Central, Central and West — earned all-region honors for 2014.
Lee University senior Hunter Vest was among the 21 golfers named from the South Region. He was one of five players selected from the Gulf South Conference. Vest, who played his high school golf at Walker Valley, had a tournament-scoring average of 72.7.
I am thrilled that Hunter was chosen for the D2 All-Region South Team,” said coach John Maupin. “This region is loaded with talented players, so it is quite an accomplishment to be chosen for this team.
“Hunter has been a consistent player for us throughout his career, but this year he really broke through and shot a lot of low rounds. He also won his first collegiate tournament this year at The Skyhawk Invitational (hosted by UT-Martin).
“Hunter played great all season, and had the lowest scoring average on the team,” Maupin noted. “He is very deserving of this honor. This is also exciting because it is the first individual NCAA D2 honors that we have had someone from one of our golf teams receive.”
