The Ocoee Region Builders Association has announced this year’s scholarship recipients.

Class of 2014 Cleveland High School graduate Nelson Chung and Cleveland State Community College student Reed Allison are this year’s recipients.

Chung plans to study mechanical engineering at Tennessee Tech University. Allison is studying civil engineering.

Each student received $500 from ORBA and $500 from the Home Builders Association of Tennessee.

Both were excited to receive their $1,000 checks during a recent ORBA meeting.

Allison said he would likely use the scholarship toward books.

ORBA member Dennis Epperson said Allison had won several awards while attending Cleveland High School before going on to community college.

Epperson also praised him as a good student.

Chung found out about the scholarship opportunity from Cleveland High School teacher David Gluckner.

“Nelson is just a fantastic student to have in class,” Gluckner said

Gluckner said Nelson was always eager to be a part of any project he could be a part of.

“He was a great fit for the scholarship,” Gluckner said

ORBA member John Profitt also serves on the scholarship committee for HBAT.

“We are privileged this year to give two scholarships. Next year we hope to do at least that many, maybe more,” Profit said.

ORBA has been awarding scholarships to students going into homebuilding-related fields since 2005, Epperson said.

Money for the HBAT scholarships is raised through silent auctions at the state meetings.

The local scholarship money is raised through general membership meeting sponsors.
