James Anthony “Tony” McKenzie, 48, a resident of Decatur, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, from an accident.
He was born on Oct. 9, 1965. He was a 1983 graduate of Meigs County High School. He was an avid NASCAR fan and loved attending and cheering at track events for his son Logan. He attended Decatur United Methodist Church. His smiling face will be sadly missed by his family, friends and his dog “Jack”.
He is preceded in death by his father, R.L. McKenzie Jr.; grandparents: Spurgeon and Opal Suits, R. L. McKenzie Sr. and Felix and Myrtle Randolph.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his son, James “Logan” McKenzie and his mother, Michelle McKenzie of Niota; mother, Jane Suits McKenzie; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Ruben “Mike” and Michele Brown McKenzie and Chris and Bridget McKenzie, sister, Jennifer McKenzie; niece, Emma Womac; nephews: Bryce and Tanner McKenzie, all of Decatur; aunts and uncles: Ned and Ann Johnson of Cleveland, Billy G. and Johnnie McKenzie, Jerry M. and Jeania McKenzie, Mary Lou and Benny DeLoach, all of Decatur and George Madison and Shelby McKenzie of Harrison; many cousins, numerous other extended family members and a host of special friends.
A memorial celebration of his life is planned for tonight, June 6, 2014, at 7 p.m. at Decatur United Methodist Church, 145 Vernon Street in Decatur with the Rev. Hugh Bryan officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church this evening from 4 p.m. until the 7 p.m. service time.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to the Decatur United Methodist Church Building Fund in Tony’s memory.
