Edward Clay Cole, 87, of Madisonville, went home to be with the Lord at 9:59 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2014, surrounded by his loved ones at Starr Regional Medical Center in Athens.
He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church since the age of 10, and lived a long life of dedicated service to God, family and his country.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Tellico Masonic Lodge No. 80, and a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Cora Faye Watson Cole; daughter, Rita Copeland of Cleveland; sons and daughters-in-law: Jimmy and Kathleen Cole of Englewood, Jeff and Tina Cole of Madisonville; grandchildren: Lynn Price, Angie Walker, Tammy Brown, Tonya Watson, Jimmie Lou Gibson, Alicia Lewallen, Adam Copeland, Brandon Cole and Brittany Cole; 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Russell; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents, John and Hettie Laney Cole; sister, Pauline Cole; brother, Gus Cole; and son-in-law, Henry Copeland.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2014, at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Frank Hicks officiating.
Interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Haven Hill Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by V.F.W. Post No.5156 and D.A.V. No. 93.
The family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bethlehem Baptist Church.
