Dr. George J. Lewis, 73, of Thomaston, Ga., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 17, 2014.
He has been pastor of Holy Ground Worship Center since 1991.
He was a gifted musician and songwriter with several of his compositions reaching Gospel Music’s Top 25. He touched innumerable lives and will be sorely missed. Our loss, is Heaven’s gain.
He was born in Middlesboro, Ky. to the late George Timothy and Lizzie Mason Lewis.
He is preceded in death by brothers: James Clarence (Ethel) Lewis and Clifford Lewis.
Survivors include his wife, Cecilia Lewis of Thomaston; daughter, Nicole Johnson of Athens, Ga.; sons: Scott (Darla) Lewis of Cleveland, Jeff (Sharon) Lewis of Thomaston and Darrin (Raul) Lewis of Atlanta; brothers: Dewey (Cecil) Lewis, Charles Alvin (Joyce), Mitchell (Pat) Lewis and Cecil H. (Edna) Lewis, all of Monroe, Mich.; sister, Hazel M. Hatfield of Angola, Ind.; Judy (Alan) Hileman of whom George loved as a sister; grandchildren: Aaron Cagle, Caitlyn Fuller, Jacob Lewis, Jenna (Matt) Harness, Larissa (Matt) Brown, Bryan Rosales, Stephen Rosales, Natalie Rosales, Shayde Burke and Trinity Burke; and great-grandchildren: Parker Brown and Aubree Brown.
The funeral will be held Saturday, June 21, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Holy Ground Worship Center, with burial to follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday at Coggins Funeral Home in Thomaston from 5 to 8 pm.

Dr. Lewis exemplified the scripture from John 13:35 “By this all will know that you are my disciples if you have love for one another.”
