NASHVILLE (AP) — Former Predators coach Barry Trotz will return to Nashville to face his former team for the first time Jan. 16 when the Washington Capitals visit Bridgestone Arena.

Trotz was the only coach in Predators franchise history before being fired at the end of last season. He was hired as the Capitals’ coach in May. The Capitals visit Nashville on Jan. 16 and host the Predators on March 28.

The matchup with Trotz is a highlight of the Predators’ schedule that was released Sunday.

New Predators coach Peter Laviolette, fired by Philadelphia last October, will face his old team Dec. 27 when Nashville hosts the Flyers. Laviolette will return to Philadelphia on Feb. 21.

Laviolette also previously coached the New York Islanders (2001-03) and Carolina Hurricanes (2003-09). The Predators visit the Islanders on Feb. 19 and host the Islanders on March 5. Nashville plays at Carolina on Dec. 2 and hosts the Hurricanes on Jan. 6.

Nashville has six of its first eight games at home but follows that up with a six-game trip from Oct. 29 to Nov. 8 as Bridgestone Arena hosts the Country Music Association Awards. That represents the Predators’ longest trip of the season.

The Predators also will play four straight road games from March 9-15 while Bridgestone Arena hosts the Southeastern Conference men’s basketball tournament.

The Predators open the season Oct. 9 by hosting the Ottawa Senators. They have two more home games Oct. 11 against Dallas and Oct. 14 against Calgary before making their first trip of the season.
