Lena Alene “Midge” Hatcher, 86, of Athens, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, June 22, 2014, at Starr Regional Medical Center in Athens.

She was a native and lifelong resident of McMinn County and a daughter of the late Elbert C. and Oneda Sampson Lingerfelt. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Billy Joe Hatcher, on June 11, 2004; daughter, Kathy Moses; four brothers: Ralph Earl Lingerfelt, Charles “Jabo” Lingerfelt, Roy Lee Lingerfelt and Ross V. “Big Shot” Lingerfelt; and sister, Cleo Haney.

Midge was a member of Woodward Avenue Church of God, where she taught Sunday school and children’s church and was a member of the Keenager Choir and a lifelong member of the church choir.

She was a member of McMinn County Senior Citizens, where she was a member of the choir, was an honorary member of Mount Olive Church of God in Cleveland and was a former employee of North City Cafeteria and Athens Hosiery Mill.

Survivors include Lana and Bruce Whisman of Cleveland, Gail and Preston Moser of Athens, Sarah and her fiance, Gary Mlakar, of Knoxville; two grandchildren: Melody and husband, Daniel Lantz, J.P. and wife, Keila Moser; one great-grandson, Justin Alexander; one great-granddaughter, Riley Lantz; brother, Marvin Gene “Dobbin” Lingerfelt of Goshen, Ohio; sister, Pearl Townsend of Charleston; several nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Mae Moser.

The funeral will be held at 7 p.m. today, June 24, 2014, at Woodward Avenue Church of God with the Revs. Wayne Fritts and Clifford Waters officiating.

Interment will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in McMinn Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 this evening at the church.
