He was born in Somerset on Aug. 29, 1938, the son of the late John Wesley and Vivie Sears Waddle.
He was united in marriage to Roberta L. Holladay Waddle on Dec. 24, 1959, at Mount Victory, Ky.
He was preceeded in death, besides his parents, by his infant daughter, Lynda Susanne Waddle; his brother, Walter W. Waddle; his sister, Mary Katherine Cox; and his sister-in-law, Carolyn Griffin Waddle.
He is survived by his wife of 54 ½ years; a sister, Evelyn Mae Coomer (Bob); five children: Mitzi Rose Hanna (Scott) of Louisville, Ky., Michael W. Waddle (BarryAnn) of Baghdad, Ky., Timothy Waddle (Valerie) of Fredrick, Md., Bryan Charles Waddle (Rhonda) of Houston, Texas and Steven Waddle (Hyon-Cha) of Harrogate, United Kingdom; and nine grandchildren: Joshua Jaggers, Matthew Carroll, Ethan Carroll, Brianna Waddle, Vivian Waddle, James Waddle, Harrison Waddle, Jackson Waddle and Anderson Waddle.
He was of the Baptist faith. He was a graduate of Somerset High School Class of 1957. He was employed as a woodworker for Gamble Brothers in Louisville, Ky., for 42 years.
He and his wife moved back to Somerset after his retirement. He was an avid bicycle rider and was known by many in Somerset as the Bicycle Man. He enjoyed going to Churchill Downs, collected Kentucky Derby memorabilia and owned two race horses. He was a hard worker and took good care of his family and loved them very much. He was loved greatly and will be missed dearly.
Visitation will be held today, noon to 5 p.m., at the chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company and Crematory.
A celebration honoring the life of Charles Leighton “Mousie” Waddle will be at 5 p.m. today with Minister Bill Swanson officiating.
