Today is the anniversary of the tragic death of Dustin Ledford.

Ledford, 24, was killed in a head-on crash on APD-40 in 2010. Tiffany Isaza, the other driver in the crash, has been convicted of consuming alcohol and methamphetamine.

Ledford’s mother, Kim, has launched an effort to provide scholarships in Dustin’s name.

The Dustin Ledford “Live Wide Open” Scholarship is funded through various efforts in the community. A recent golf tournament raised more than $11,000 for scholarships.

To further raise funds for the scholarships, 10 percent of the sales today between 4 and 9 p.m at Shane’s Rib Shack will be used to fund scholarships. Heartstrings will be providing music for the evening.

Shane’s Rib Shack is located 4484 Frontage Road N.W. in The Cleveland Towne Center.

“Live Wide Open” scholarships provided this year include Andrew Adams, $500, Cleveland High School; Cal Pickel, $1,000, Bradley Central; Lindsey Armstrong, $500, BCHS; Katie Bishop and Elijah West, $750 each, Walker Valley High School; Savannah Craig, $500, WVHS; Allie Cody, $500, WVHS; Kearie McSpadden, $1,000, college student; Carly Morris, $500, college student; and Bobby Town, $500.
