Lt. Steve Tyson, a 27-year veteran of the force was placed on administrative leave July 2, according to officer Evie West, public information officer for Cleveland Police Department.
Tyson recently took a position as lieutenant over the Criminal Investigations Property Crimes Division. He has also administered Patrol Division shifts during his career.
10th Judicial District Attorney General Steve Crump said his office has been notified of the internal affairs investigation.
“I was notified by letter from the Cleveland Police Department and, after their investigation, will determine if any further investigation is warranted,” Crump said.
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokesman Josh DeVine said Friday that no request has been made for his department’s assistance.
Some area media outlets were erroneously reporting that Tyson had been fired from the department; however, West said Saturday afternoon that Tyson was on administrative leave until the investigation is complete.
