According to Trooper Pumpy Tudors, a crash in McMinn County at mile marker 39 was reported during the night.
Tudors aided in the investigation, then just after 5:30 a.m., a tractor rig caught fire near mile marker 16 on White Oak Mountain. Tudors said the driver was able to detach the trailer that contained UPS general freight.
Bradley County Fire and Rescue along with Tri-Community Fire Department worked to contain the blazing tractor.
According to Tudors, the tractor was a total loss.
As the interstate became clogged with traffic, two secondary crashes were reported in the northbound traffic lanes prior to the location where the fire was located.
Tudors said a crash occurred just before 7:30 a.m. and another just after 8 a.m.
All the incidents occurred in the northbound lanes of the interstate, but traffic along the southbound side was also slowed.
Investigation is continuing.
