Auditions for the Ocoee Theatre Guild’s fall production of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” will be held at the Ocoee Middle School today at 2:30 p.m. and Monday and Tuesday at 7 p.m. For more information, visit Guild.

Americorps Vista (Volunteers in Service to America) at Family Promise of Bradley County is holding an educational program to raise awareness in the community about poverty and homelessness. The event will be at the Cleveland YMCA on Tuesday nights at 6 p.m., through July 22.

James County Historical Society will meet Aug. 3 at 2:30 p.m. at Ooltewah Methodist Church. The program on old cars and roads of the Old Jim County era will be presented by Larry Williams with the topic: “The Re-birth of a Model-T Ford.”


— Adults have until July 31 to turn in their reading logs and be entered in the summer Literary Elements drawing. The drawing will be held Aug. 1. Teens can turn in their reading logs between July 28 and Aug. 4. Children’s logs are accepted from July 21 through July 26.

— Movie Night@the Library on Tuesday will feature “Philomena” at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room. Judi Dench stars in the story of Philomena Lee, mother to a boy conceived out of wedlock and given up for adoption. The movie is based on the 2009 investigative book by Martin Sixsmith, “The Lost Child of Philomena Lee.”

— Wednesday’s matinee movie at 2 p.m. will be “Hoot” (Rated G), in the Community Room. Game time following the movie will continue until 5:30 p.m.

— A Father-Son Breakfast will be held in the Community Room on July 26, from 10 to 11:15 a.m. To sign up, stop by the Children’s Desk, call 472-2163 or go online.

— National Teen Lock-In will be held at the library from 7 p.m. on Aug. 1 until 7 a.m. on Aug. 2. This event is limited to 35 teens and a mandatory parent/teen meeting is required to attend. — TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) local chapter meets every Monday at Wesleyan United Methodist Church on Peerless Road. Private weigh-ins are from 5 to 5:30 p.m.; meeting is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. A TOPS category for children ages 7-18 is available. For more information, call 472-9628 or 593-4727.
