The Cleveland Country Club Men’s Championship had a three-way tie atop the Championship Flight leaderboard at the end of the 36 holes of regulation, forcing a playoff to decide the winner, but the two low scores of the weekend came in the Senior Flight competition.

Pat Marcrom used an opening round 3-under-par 69 on Saturday to set the stage to be the event’s low medalist with a 1-over 145 (after a 76 on Sunday) to win the senior title.

John Haile fired matching 2-over 74s for a 148 tally for second place among the seniors and the second-best score of the weekend.

After an opening round 83, Eddie Watson came charging back with a 69 on the final 18 holes to earn a tie with Pudgie Payne, who shot a 77-75 — 152, for third place in the Senior Flight.

Meanwhile in the Championship Flight, Dylan Lillard, John Maupin and Ryan Hulton each rounded the course twice in 149 strokes to cause the need for a playoff to determine a winner.

Hulton, a former Lee University standout, held the Championship Flight lead with a 1-over 73 in the opening round, while Maupin, the Lee golf coach, was right on his heels with a 74.

The pair were neck-and-neck throughout Sunday’s action with the one-stroke difference being reversed as Maupin shot a 75 and Hulton a 76.

Meanwhile, Lillard came out of nowhere to join the pair. The Walker Valley High School junior struggled out of the gate with a 79 in the opening round, but came back on fire with a final round 2-under 70 to force his way into the playoff.

Lillard, who recently claimed the CCC Junior Championship title, was able to prevail over the two more seasoned golfers with a par on the first extra hole to capture the Men’s Club title as well.

Another close battle took place in the event’s First Flight competition as Jason Swallows and Brian Holloway were just a stroke apart when all was said and done.

Swallows claimed the crown with a 75-76 — 151, while Holloway had to settle for second place with a 77-75 — 152.

Jay Mullin (78-80 — 158) edged Mark S. Bishop II (78-81 — 159) for third place in the First Flight.

William Lee Rainey ran away with the Second Flight title with an 80-79 — 159 tally for a 10-stroke win.

Tim Jones (83-86 — 169) was the flight runner up, while Dax McGowan (84-87 — 171) nipped Larry Kugler (87-85 — 172) for third place.
