Bennie Franklin Hicks, 77, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday night, Aug. 2, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born on Aug. 20, 1936, a son of the late Charlie and Rossie Hicks.

He was of the Baptist faith. He was retired from Brown Printing Company in Dalton, Ga. He enjoyed car shows and antique cars. He was also an avid coin and knife collector.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three sisters: Ruth Ogle, Mable Tatum and Pauline Burt; and five brothers: Arthur Lee, Clyde, Winston, Ed and Fred Hicks.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, June Caldwell Hicks; three children: Gary Michael Hicks and his wife, Tera, of Cleveland, Debbie Holcomb and her husband, Don, of Tampa, Fla. and Dennis Wayne Hicks and his wife, Sandra, of Cleveland; five grandchildren: Shane Moses, Tammy Hicks Arrowood (Kelvin), Kevin Moses, Marshall Hicks (Dana) and Emily Hicks Collins (Casey), six great-grandchildren; numerous other extended family members and a host of special friends.

A celebration of his life is planned for tonight, Aug. 5, 2014, at 7 p.m. at the Samples Memorial Baptist Church, 371 Samples Chapel Road in Cleveland, with the Rev. Jerry Campbell and the Rev. Mark Cameron officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church this afternoon from 4 to 7 p.m. service time.

The interment and committal service will take place on Wednesday morning, Aug. 6, 2014, at 11 a.m. in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery with Kevin Moses, Casey Collins, Kelvin Arrowood, Danny Boling, Marshall Hicks and son Gary Michael Hicks serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Shane Moses, Blake Moses, Kameron Arrowood and Knox Arrowood.
