A called session of the SPCA of Bradley County board of directors scheduled for tonight has been cancelled.

SPCA President Betti Gravelle sent out the notice late Thursday afternoon.

Gravelle said she had been informed that secretary Jack Burke and board members Charlotte Peak-Jones and Mark Hall “have given notice they will not be attending the Friday, Aug. 8, (7 p.m.) board meeting.”

“It has been cancelled due to lack of a quorum,” the announcement stated.

Under the SPCA bylaws, no action could have been taken with the three members absent and with Burke, who serves in an officer capacity as treasurer, being absent, that would leave only one officer in attendance.

The SPCA bylaws state at the very minimum two officers have to be in attendance to constitute a quorum.

Gravelle and Burke are the only two officers of the board in their respective positions.

The announcement made no reference to a potential future date.

SPCA’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Aug. 18 at 7 p.m., in the County Commission meeting room.
