Wacker Polysilicon North America (WPNA) is hiring new team members in Charleston, Tenn. Currently posted positions include engineering, maintenance, safety and security, analytics and operations.

“We post new positions each week,” said Dr. Erika Burk, director of human resources for the site. “Several hundred positions will need to be filled in time for the plant’s commissioning scheduled for mid-2015. This is a great opportunity for those seeking a rewarding career to look into Wacker.”

To apply for a position with Wacker, applicants should visit www.wacker.com and click on the “Careers” tab. From this section, visitors will be asked to upload a resume and fill out an application.

“We are looking for people who are safety-minded, goal-oriented and have strong communication skills,” adds Burk. “At this time, there are positions posted at various levels in different departments. Some positions require a minimum of two years of experience, and others 10 or more years. Prior work experience in a mechanical, technical or chemical environment is a plus.”

“Wacker has a good team atmosphere, from engineering to maintenance to operations,” said Dan Moses, maintenance planner for the site. “Cooperation to complete the task at hand in a professional and pleasant manner is just the way we do business. I enjoy every workday here, and the new challenges and opportunities each day brings.”

Among the openings posted on wacker.com today are several maintenance positions.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for those who have some maintenance experience and are ready to hit the ground running,” Moses said. “It’s is a unique chance to be part of the team here before the plant is operational. We maintain massive technical equipment — some more than 200 feet tall — and it is very interesting work.”

“To properly maintain the equipment on a site of this size, it is necessary for us to have an on-site maintenance facility,” said Dr. Konrad Bachhuber, vice president and site manager for Wacker Polysilicon North America. “We have built a 60,000-square-foot state-of-the-art maintenance workshop for these important activities.”

In addition to the maintenance positions, engineering positions are open in the mechanical, chemical, and electrical instrument and control (EI&C) areas at WPNA. Those who are hired for these positions will manage multiple production and infrastructure facilities.

The company is also looking to fill several other positions, including a training/development manager in the human resources department, a project scheduler to develop project planning processes, a production manager for physical analytics and a senior manager to supervise three lab areas.

In the coming months, WPNA is expected to post several management positions in operations, and various positions in both the quality and fire brigade departments. These positions range in required years of experience. All new hires must pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen and background check.

“One benefit of working at Wacker is that we create the right conditions for all team members to develop their abilities to the fullest extent,” said Burk. “While our focus at this time is on assembling a strong team to support the commissioning of our plant, the training and advancement programs we offer will support team members with upward career mobility in the future.”
