The Rev. Loyal R. “L. R.” (Papa) Pinkard, 85, of Cleveland, was transferred from this life to his eternal home Thursday night, Aug. 7, 2014.

He was born in Double Springs, Ala., on July 13, 1929, a son of the late W. L. & Viola Mae Pinkard.

He was a minister of the Church of God for over 60 years.

He was a Native American Cherokee Indian of the Echota Tribe of Alabama. He was a devoted family man and pastored many churches throughout his lifetime.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie Pinkard; two brothers; and two sisters.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory one daughter, Debbie Lesley and her husband, the Rev. Ron Lesley; grandson, Jeremy Lesley and his wife, Kym, and their children Hannah, Jeremiah and Ryver; three sisters and three brothers, all of Alabama; numerous other extended family members; and host of special friends.

A graveside service is planned for Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at 2 p.m. CST in the Fairview Baptist Cemetery in Double Spring, Ala. with the Rev. Ron Lesley, Jeremy Lesley and the Rev. Neal Pinkard officiating.

The family will receive friends today from 2 until 6 p.m. in the chapel of Companion Funeral Home, located at 2419 Georgetown Road in Cleveland.
