Ray Newman Short Sr., 80, was born on July 7, 1934, and passed away Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at Parkside Nursing Home surrounded by family.
He was born in South Pittsburg and lived most of his life in Chattanooga before moving to Rossville, Ga.
He was a machinist with Sherman and Riley before becoming disabled.
He was preceded in death by parents, Lawrence and Kate Short; daughter, Rita Short; and son, Franky Dye.
Survivors include his son, Ray Short Jr. (Kelly); daughter, Millie McElhaney (Terry); grandchildren: Michael Short (Amanda), Amy Dunn (Eddie), Samantha Mansel (Kris), Robin Morgan (Jerry), Tommy, Corey Short, Ray Short III (Jamey); stepgrandchildren: Terry McElhaney Jr. (Christy) and David McElhaney (Kristy); 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and special friends: Sue McElhaney and Bobby Sue Henley.
A memorial service was held at Parkside Nursing Home on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014. The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
